Apple reportedly has a new lens supplier for the iPhone 13
Supply chain diversification has always been an important business strategy for Apple and the latest report indicates that it has recruited an additional lens supplier for the iPhone 13.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Sunny Optical is expected to be approved as an additional lens supplier. Since Sunny Optical has successfully passed Apple’s approval process for the iPad lenses, it puts the company in good stead to be approved to make the main camera lens for the iPhone 13.
The 7-element lens for the main camera are currently supplied by Largan, Yujingguang, and Kantatsu. The Covid-19 outbreak in early 2020 led to several disruptions across Apple’s supply chain and the company has been working hard to diversify the pool of lens suppliers.
The iPhone 13 Pro is said to come with “significant” improvements for its ultra-wide camera. Kuo’s report in November 2020 indicated that the aperture will be widened from f/2.4 to f/1.8 and the number of elements in the lens will be increased to six.
